I’ve seen this tag on YouTube and a million blogs and Instagram accounts, so I figured I’d join in. I’m going to start doing a monthly roundup of things I used and loved within that month, and what better time to start than January! Some of these products I actually bought this past month, and others I already owned and just started using more this month or fell in love with again.
So here’s a breakdown of what I’ve been loving this month:
Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops in Moonlight
I received these as a 100 point perk from Sephora, and honestly I didn’t really know what to do with it when I got it. I thought it would be too dramatic a highlight for me, so I left it sitting in my drawer for a few weeks before actually deciding to try it – and I fell in love. Not only is this a gorgeous highlight shade, that if applied sparingly is completely wearable and not even close to as sparkly as I feared it would be, but it’s also really nice when mixed in with foundation, especially if you have dry skin like me and the word “matte” scares you. This adds a really nice dewy effect to your foundation, and I think it’ll be even more useable in spring and summer (come faster pls)!
Kevyn Aucoin Lash Curler
I used to just buy whatever eyelash curler was on sale at the pharmacy because I thought they all performed the exact same way. I WAS SO VERY WRONG. If you have naturally curled lashes then any curler will work just fine for you, but unfortunately my lashes stick straight out and bend downward, so curling them is a nightmare sometimes,
first world problems yaya I get it. This one really holds the curl super well, and makes it last forever – seriously, even after taking off my mascara my lashes are curled when I wake up the next day. Another one I’d recommend is this Tweezerman one, which I originally had and loved before this one, but it fell out of my bag one day and fell into a sewer grate because I am such a lucky person.
NYX Matte Lipstick in Whipped Caviar
One of my favorite brands, NYX rarely disappoints, especially for lip products. These are actually my favorite of those I’ve tried from them, and this color in particular is a really great everyday shade. They last a long time, feel really comfortable while giving you the perfect matte finish
NYX Micro Brow Pencil
My go-to eyebrow product for the longest time was the ABH Brow Wiz, but I found myself finishing them so quickly and having to repurchase them very often – and at $27 it was getting a little bit too pricey. Since then, I started using their dip brow pomade, but I decided to pick up the NYX brow pencil to see if it compared to my old brow wiz, and it does for more than half the price. I now use a mix of the NYX micro brow pencil and my ABH pomade and it’s been working out perfectly.
NYX Dewy Finish Long Lasting Setting Spray
At first I really didn’t like this product, because in reality it doesn’t really do what it says it does – I don’t find it gives a dewy finish whatsoever. That said, I think it’s really amazing at setting your makeup in place and I have found that my makeup seems to last longer. Not to mention it’s much cheaper than a lot of other setting sprays!
Too Faced Love Flush Blush in Love Hangover
I never really started wearing blush until recently, because I used to blush really easily in high school and the thought of emphasizing that even more just made me cringe. I really like it in the winter, though, to add some color to my pale af face. This one is my current go-to. I love the color, it’s really pigmented so you have to go in with the slightest hand, and it gives off a really subtle, natural look while leaving the faintest glow. Not to mention this packaging is EVERYTHING.
Tom Ford Noir Pour Femme Perfume
I actually got this perfume this summer, and wore it a lot then, but kind of forgot about it for a few months. I picked it up again around the holidays and I’ve been wearing it every single day. It’s not for everyone, but I personally love it – it smells really sultry and somehow makes me feel like I have my shit together. It makes me want to buy every single Tom Ford fragrance available but unfortunately they’re ridiculously expensive, so I’ll be sticking to this one for a while.
Love Moschino Faux Fur Trimmed Padded Puffer Coat
This jacket is probably my favorite piece of clothing I own. I can’t find this exact model online, but the one I linked one is similar. I picked it up a few years ago at Winners
hella on sale because I’m broke af and obviously can’t afford a full-price designer jacket but there was only one left, two sizes too big. I finally got it altered a few weeks ago, and have been wearing it non-stop ever since. Since I tend to wear mostly neutral colors, it’s a beautiful statement piece to own, especially when the dullness of winter can kind of get you down. It just makes me so happy, I mean look at it.
Karl Lagerfeld Reversible tote
I picked up this bag on Boxing Day at The Bay (half off!!) and only after wearing it on the brown side for about a week did I realize it was reversible (I’ve linked a similar one). I alternate now, and I use it pretty much every day for school – it fits my laptop, charger, planner, and wallet in there with room to spare!
Calvin Klein Belt
I never wore belts – until I found this in my mom’s closet (I’ve linked a similar one – this one is probably very old). I punched more holes in it so it would fit me, and I’ve worn it like 10 times since pretty much stealing it from my mother a few weeks ago. It’s classic, simple, and goes with a ton of outfits.
Moleskine Wine Journal
So I’ve actually only used this once so far, but I love the idea of it, and know I’ll be getting a lot of use out of it with how much wine I drink. It’s has a really nice embossed cover, with dividers inside for different types of wine, as well as stickers so that you can add your own sections (I’ve added beer and cocktail sections to mine).
Oh She Glows: Vegan Recipes by Angela Liddon
I bought this book around May of last year, when I first stopped eating meat, and made a few recipes but really picked it up again so many times this past month. I’ve made at least 4-5 recipes from this book in the last few weeks, and they’ve all been amazing. She has a new book out now which is a follow-up to this one, so I’m planning on using this one even more in the coming months before picking up her latest one! I highly recommend it if you’re looking for plant-based recipes, and even if you do eat meat and are just looking for some healthy and easy meal options that are still really hearty and delicious.
I know this might seem a little different from everything else here considering it’s not an actual product, but I’ve stopped adding milk and sugar into my coffee and I’ve felt great. I stopped drinking dairy when I’m home and always opt for almond milk when I can, but since my school coffee stands don’t have a dairy-free option I would always add milk to my coffee and feel sick within the hour… I decided to just start not adding anything into my coffee and I thought I would hate it but I gotta say the lack of immediate stomach aches along with it actually not tasting remotely as bitter as I thought it would has been great.
That’s about it for my January roundup, hope to see you back here next month!
