I’m all for buying pieces that you not only love, but can wear over and over and get good use out of. In this quick little post I’m going to show you four different ways of styling the classic wardrobe essential – the little black dress. The one I’m wearing here is a simple black pinafore dress from Topshop (mine’s in denim, the one I linked is in velvet), but any will do. It’s such a versatile piece to own, and you can easily find a really affordable option to suit your needs or splurge if that’s your thing. Because of the simplicity of the little black dress, it lends itself to so many different outfit possibilities.
Simple dainty jewelry works best for a classic little black dress look. A simple necklace, like this classic Tiffany one, and stud or pearl earrings add elegance and sophistication to the outfit, and really make the dress the standout item. Black strappy heels or classic nude pumps are the perfect thing to keep the look in check.
Simple cat-eye liner and bold, bright red lips would go perfectly with this classic look.
If wearing a dress on an everyday basis seems daunting, you just have to remember to keep it simple. If I were to wear a LBD for a casual summer day out, or on a school day, I would keep it really basic, pairing it with a ripped jean jacket, like the one I’m wearing from Zara, or oversized denim shirt. For shoes, you can’t go wrong with a pair of classic white low top Converse (excuse how dirty mine are), but any other neutral sneaker will do.
Whatever makeup you do or don’t wear on the daily! I usually just put on some tinted moisturizer, bronzer, fill in my brows, and add a neutral lip color.
3. NIGHT OUT
A leather or bomber jacket, depending on the vibe you’re going for, pair really well with a simple black dress without overpowering it. I would pair this look with big and bold accessories, as well as pointy leather booties, chunky heels, or a pair of black over-the-knee boots.
A black smokey eye and a nude lip would be perfect for a night out.
If you’re in need of an outfit for a cocktail hour or a business casual setting, but still want an added touch of glamour, pairing your LBD with a bright blazer is the way to go. This one from Zara is my favorite , it’s long and looks great worn over the shoulders. I think a floral option like this would look incredible for spring too (“Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking”). As for shoes, I think a modest heel or bootie would tie the look together really well, while keeping the emphasis on the dress and blazer. A nice watch and simple gold jewelry would be the perfect additions to the outfit.
For looks like this I would go for a really neutral and glowy makeup look. Slick your hair back, bronze up your face, add some mascara and a natural-looking highlight and you’re good to go!
There you go, 4 different looks surrounding a simple little black dress. There are endless ways to style it, but these would be my go-to’s – hope it gives you some inspiration. Let me know what your go-to LBD look is!
