About a year ago, I went to Sephora to buy a concealer, and the employee helping me asked me what eye cream I used because my skin seemed really dry. I thought she was joking, because up until that moment, I had given no thought whatsoever to skincare. I’m 22 years old, I thought, what the hell do I need eye cream for?
Cut to today, where I understand that I should have been taking care of my skin all these years and am now trying to make up for lost time. I luckily never struggled with any major skincare problems in my teens, so my skincare routine in high school consisted of washing my face with warm water. That’s it.
Thankfully I have now come to realize how important taking care of your skin is, and how buying all the best makeup products means nothing if you’re not taking care of the base you’re putting it all down on. My daily skincare regimen is now one of my favorite parts of my day, so read along if you want to see what I use on my skin morning and night to strive for that flawless (ok not even close but a girl can dream) face!
Mornings are super simple for me because all I do is use the Clinique 3-Step System. Even though I’m always up for trying new face wash samples I get my hands on, my go-to cleanser is still the Clinique Mild Liquid Facial Soap. It’s formulated for dry combination skin, which is perfect for me because I tend to get really dry around my nose and forehead. After pat-drying my face with a clean towel, I use the Clinique Clarifying Lotion 2, also formulated for dry comination skin, on a cotton ball or pad, and finish with the Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Cream. I’ve tried a lot of moisturizers but this is definitely one of my favorites in terms of actually keeping your skin feeling and looking hydrated all day.
Back when I didn’t care about my skin and just took advantage of being young (oh naïve Antoinette), I would regularly fall asleep with makeup on, and I cringe thinking about that now. I’ve gotten so picky about making sure that ALL my makeup, and any dirt and oil that accumulate throughout the day, are gone before getting to bed. To do this, I start by using the Neutrogena All-In-One Makeup Removing Cleansing Wipes, which are my absolute favorite makeup removing wipes. They’re really efficient and gentle, and don’t leave a weird residue like others I’ve tried. I don’t stop there, though; I use my Bioderma Makeup Removing Micelle Solution for sensitive skin on a cotton pad. This shit is the bomb. It feels like water but it removes all your makeup perfectly, it’s like magic I swear.
Once my makeup is gone, I go in with the Clinique 3-Step System once again, but unlike in the morning where I just use my face cleanser with my hands, at night I like to use it with my Clarisonic Mia 2 facial cleansing brush. It’s super gentle on my skin and has a sensitive setting if my skin’s feeling particularly delicate that day.
Lately I have been OBSESSED with face masks, so I use one once or twice per week. Two that I’ve been recently using are the Origins Original Skin Retexturizing Mask with Rose Clay and the Boscia Charcoal Pore Pudding Intensive Wash-off Treatment. Two other great options are the Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask, and the Fresh Rose Face Mask.
Along with my moisturizer, at night I like to use the Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Eye cream, because one of the biggest things I’m insecure about face-wise are my under-eye circles. I bought this product because a YouTuber suggested it (yes I am very easily influenced okay); I’ve seen little difference in darkness, but I keep using it because I really do like it in terms of how well it moisturizes my under-eye area.
And there you have it, my full morning and night skincare routine. I’m always up for trying new skincare products, so let me know if you have any suggestions. I hope you enjoyed the product and routine run-through!
